Soooo, I'm trying to figure out how to import the blog posts from my other blogs to this one. I just don't need three. I'd like to just have the one now and everything I think of can go there. I'll figure it out I'm sure...or I might give in and ask for help. :)
I'm looking forward to getting back into writing. I think it will be a good way to channel my energy this fall/winter. My mom got me a subscription to Writer's Digest. It's a great magazine and I'm so happy that it's still got a print edition. I just got my first issue yesterday and I'm excited about several articles. Plus there are numerous writing exercises. V. cool.
In other news I just found out that Newsweek is going to end printing at the end of the year. Starting 2013, one will find Newsweek online only. I should be more bummed. I used to enjoy getting Newsweek and reading every week in college, and for several years after.
But honestly it's been years since I read it. And I ended my newspaper print subscription earlier this year. I've got a love-hate relationship with print media. I love the feeling of reading an actual newspaper. I do not seem to have time to do that daily however. I've briefly had the New York Times and the Indy Star but gave both up because I'd get to a point where I wasn't reading it all.
The truth is that I do get most of my news on the internet or from the news apps on my phone. And the Indy Star is starting to charge for access online after a certain amount of free articles; very reminiscent of the New York Times model.
Is this what the future holds for news? I'm not naive enough to think that truly objective journalism exists; everyone has an agenda. But I am old enough to remember a time when journalists reported the news without commentating or opinionating so much. There doesn't seem to be a line between news and editorials anymore. So it looks like one is going to decide who's viewpoint one wants for news and pay for it.
