It's a bird...it's a plane...it's Scripture Girl!

Just a quick note to appease those who have called for more blogging.  I do apologize--I tend to write less when I'm not depressed.  Trying to change that.  It's not easy.  You know what "they" say, 'You can lead a horse to water but you can't teach an old dog to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.'  Or something like that....

I'm developing a rep I rather enjoy.  For my Wed night Bible study I've been really digging into the Word to look for verses that support my answers and my thoughts.  I was initially timid about sharing all I'd looked up.  And I only share about half of what I look up because I'm thorough.

But then a couple ladies shared how they had looked up some of the scriptures afterwards.  Someone really took to heart one of the questions and was encouraged by the scripture I'd found and shared.

I think it's the influence of BSF.  Now, with BSF, the digging is confined to the passage currently being studied.  There are occasional challenge questions where one can go anywhere in the Bible for answers/support/wisdom.

How cool that this mentality is spreading to other facets of me?  I really enjoy pouring through the concordance and rereading or sometimes reading for the first time some nugget of Truth that God has written for all of us.

It is so wonderful that God has left us this instructional manual in the Bible that it holds all the answers we need.

For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.   Hebrews 4:12

More later.

Plus I've got a new artist on my horizon...Check out Owl City...

  1. I love BSF. I went to it when we lived in Albuquerque. I also like that band too. They play that song on the new Christian station in Indy. Hope all is well!

Bigger Problems

I may not be okay but seriously there are far, far bigger problems in the world.   From the devastating earthquake in Haiti, to the tight Connecticut race for Kennedy's old Senate seat, to Health Care reform, to Paula Abdula not being a judge on American Idol this season...  Okay maybe the last one isn't that earth-shattering.  I might get lynched by a couple friends who watch it but I'll take my chances. Part of me is kicking myself for being so selfish and self centered lately.  Who cares if I'm depressed?  Or I don't feel like myself? There are families with loved ones serving in the military in dangerous places around the world.  There are kids and families on the streets, around the world and in the U.S. that don't know when they're next meal will be or how they will survive another cold winter night without shelter.  There are children who have no father or mother; they both died from AIDS, or cancer, or a drunk driver hit their car. How dare I s...

Always with the new beginnings

Wow. A lot can change in a couple months. My first year in Bible Study Fellowship is now over. It's weird. I'm sad to be losing my discussion group. They're a wonderful collage of women from whom I have learned much. They've made me laugh, they've touched my soul and shown me perspectives I could never truly imagine on my own. In another week and half, my ladies Bible study group on Wednesday, which I lovingly nickname my McDanell study, will be finishing up our current book called The Cycles of Victorious Living by Earl and Hazel Lee. It's a good book and I would recommend it. A little birdie called the church bulletin, informed me the Wednesday night group would study Hebrews next. I hope that is true--I'm ready for digging into a book of the Bible study. Lastly, my small group has started a new book. (Yes, I was in three Bible studies this winter. No, I'm probably not doing that again). The book is something Dave L. was reading and thought we'd...
